CARS FOR CAREERS is a program that provides assistance in obtaining an affordable, dependable vehicle in order to get to work-related activities for currently employed, income-eligible individuals. The program helps by coordinating the purchase of used vehicles (as well as payment of registration and licensing fees, if applicable), offering financial assistance for vehicle repairs and providing life skills for budgeting, maintenance and insurance of the vehicle.

To qualify for the Cars for Careers vehicle or repair programs, the following requirements apply:

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS - VEHICLE

  • Employed 23+ hours a week or have an employment guarantee
  • More than walking distance from work
  • Expecting or have a minor child (under 18) or the non-custodial parent of a minor child
  • Household has no other vehicles
  • Valid NYS drivers license
  • US citizen or an eligible non-citizen
  • Family income at or below the 200% Federal Poverty Level
  • Attend and complete Life Skills classes

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS - REPAIRS

  • Minor repairs (tires, brakes, battery, etc) needed to make vehicle run properly
  • Employed 23+ hours a week or have an employment guarantee
  • Vehicle is used for transportation to/from work
  • Registered, titled and insured in applicants name
  • Expecting or have a minor child (under 18) or the non-custodial parent of a minor child
  • Valid NYS drivers license
  • Family income at or below the 200% Federal Poverty Level
  • Attend and complete Life Skills classes
